Cement Plant

Using the SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution, cement makers considerably reduce the SOx emissions from clinker ovens respecting the specific limits set by European Directive 2010/75/EU for the incineration and co-incineration of municipal and industrial waste.

Cement manufacturing involves large volumes of raw materials (lime, clay, schist and marl) and an intensive use of energy to achieve the transformation reaction of these raw materials into clinker.

The use of substitute fuel tyres, different types of meal, waste-derived fuels) in cement works is an essential parameter of waste management policy at the European level. The benefits lie in the reduced consumption of non-renewable fuels and maximum recovery of the energy provided by waste. The raw material can also come from recycled material or by products; for example, the source of aluminum can be switched from minerals like bauxite to the fly ashes coming from coal fired power plants.

The polluting emissions consist essentially of dust, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide; HCl is also present. These pollutants come from fuels (fossil or alternative) but also from the raw materials, for example sulfur contained in the limestone.

The SOLVAir® Solution

Sodium Bicarbonate BICAR® has demonstrated without any doubt its effectiveness to treat acid pollutants. It can be a beneficial aid for cement factories to control their air emissions with a reasonable capital expense and the best performances / cost ratio.
