Your Question

Solvay has a founded and recognized expertise, as apparent  from the many SOLVAir® solutions implemented in various markets.

  Waste to Energy
Recovery of energy from waste combustion allows the reduction of the weight and the volume of the waste while reducing green house gases emission. The emission of pollutants is strictly controlled with the most stringent limit values. The SOLVAir® bicarbonate process not only enables to easily reach these limits but also minimizes the quantity of reagents needed, enhances the energy recovery, limits the amount of residues produced, and allows the recycle of residuals with the SOLVAir® residual sodium chemicals recycling solution.

  Industrial Boilers
To meet the strengthening of the regulations, industrial boilers can use the SOLVAir® bicarbonate process; this is a low capital cost, very effective system, particularly adapted to medium-sized plants.

  Cement Plant
By using the SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution, cement makers considerably reduce the SOx emissions of clinker ovens respecting the specific limits set by European Directive 2010/75/EU for the incineration and co-incineration of municipal and industrial waste.

  Ceramic Industry
In production of tiles, expanded clay and bricks, where large numbers of small units need simple and effective air emission control systems, the SOLVAir® bicarbonate process enables users to respect local regulations and to cut treatment costs.

  Paper Mills
To face the strengthening of the regulations, pulp & paper mills find an economical answer using the SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution for mitigation of hazardous acid gas pollutants.

  Non Ferrous Metallurgy
With an increasing number of plants currently in operation, the SOLVAir® bicarbonate Solution is a reference in the following sectors: non-ferrous metals recovery (aluminum, copper, lead), refining and recycling of precious or semi precious metals (vanadium, molybdenum, gold, platinum etc.), roasting of spent petrochemicals catalyst.

  Steel Industry
Iron and steel works using the SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution can save money while treating their flue gases coming from the sintering plants, compared to other air emission control systems.

  Oil Refinery
Using the SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution in several parts of the plants, oil refineries can easily reach a significant mitigation of acid emissions, avoiding large capital spending.

  Wastewater (sludge)
In this sector, numerous installations need simple and effective flue gas treatment systems to respect regulations.  Despite the high moisture content of the flue gas, the SOLVAir® bicarbonate process is highly effective to mitigate the main pollutant : the sulfur dioxide.

  Glass Industry
Sodium bicarbonate BICAR® is highly effective in removing sulfur dioxide, the main pollutant in glass furnaces, at any temperature above 140°C.

The residual sodium chemicals from the air emission control process are mainly consisting of sodium sulfate and can be generally directly recycled in the process, thus saving raw materials and eliminating waste products.

  Energy from Biomass
For biomass-fired units, the SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution perfectly meets the emission control requirements with limited investment.

  Carbon based Industry
Carbon-based products are high-tech materials used in a fast growing range of applications as electrodes, automotive, nuclear power station components, environmental protection, etc. The SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution is the safest and cheapest way to mitigate the SOx emissions and protect the delicate parts of the producing plant.

  Mineral Wool Industry
Mineral wool producers use SOLVAir® bicarbonate solution to economically mitigate pollutants in their flue gas.
