SOx (Sulfur Oxides) 

According to the flue gas treatment, required mitigation rate (> 95%) and the size of the plant SOLVAir® bicarbonate process can be used to mitigate SO2 and SO3

1. Thermal activation of sodium bicarbonate

                            T > 140°C
2NaHCO3 ---------------------------> Na2CO3 + CO2 + H2O



2. Acid neutralization

ALCALI + ACID GAS ------------------> SALT

NaHCO3 + HCl -------------------------> NaCl + CO2 + H2O



In utility boilers, industrial boilers cement kilns other fuel combustors and in some industrial processes, sulfur in fuel or in the raw material is converted into sulfur oxides (SO2, SO3) during combustion.  Typically, over 98% of sulfur oxides in the boiler flue gas is SO2, with the remainder being SO3, SO2 and SO3 contribute to acid rain.


The SOLVAir® Solution


For smaller boilers in the utility sector, it is too expensive to treat SO2 with wet scrubbers which typically use lime or limestone. For these industries, Dry Sorbent Injection is often the most economical choice. Ground Bicar® is injected dry, dispersed throughout the duct and allows mitigating SOx to a very low level (over 99% reduction has been measured) in order to respect even the most severe regulations.
